SEEKS
Securing Employment and Economic Keys to Stability (SEEKS) research project
Funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research
Intervention: SEEKS participants are individuals with disabilities (ages 18-60) applying for SSA disability benefits while concurrently receiving services from an employment specialist to obtain employment and a benefits counseling advocate in partnership with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. This model combines the expectation that people with disabilities can participate in the competitive, integrated workforce, and aims to address limited economic resources experienced by people with disabilities. This team of two staff offer SSI/SSDI application assistance; benefits counseling; and evidenced based employment services.
The goal of this research project is to increase monthly income, employment for persons with disabilities and reduce social isolation of individuals with disabilities.
- Objective 1: Connect persons with disabilities applying for SSI/SSDI with competitive employment.
- Objective 2: Provide comprehensive benefits counseling to persons with disabilities applying for SSI/SSDI.
- Objective 3: Increase connections for persons with disabilities who are seeking independent living services.
Colorado SILC members have participated in the SEEKS Advisory Team from inception and have provided ongoing input in design of products; outreach to engage participants; and infused the disability personal experience throughout the project. The SILC Chair has led the Peer Advisory Committee under the SEEKS Advisory Team.
